Issues Bigger than Climate Change

As I was wading through the cesspool of information surrounding the “climategate” scandal a question came to me: Could there be any other issue out there bigger than climate change? Well knowing how the left operates I wasn’t disappointed because there are.

According to academic Julian Cribb, who appeared before the Australian Senate, food is bigger!

Dealing with the prospect of food shortages in the next 40 years is a bigger problem than climate change, a Senate inquiry has been told.

With the world’s population expected to reach about 9.2 billion by 2050, coupled with food demand growing at one per cent per annum, the requirement for food will roughly double by mid-century, academic Julian Cribb says.

But the EU sees things differently. Our European cousins say it’s biodiversity!

“The threat of loss of biodiversity is bigger than climate change if we consider that, once a species is lost, no mitigation measure can help to bring it back,” commented Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas during the March 2006 conference of the 188 governments that have signed up to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, in Curitiba, Brazil.

However, while the UN wouldn’t go as far as saying something was bigger than climate change, it did say a water scarcity is now a “bigger threat than [the] financial crisis.”

The two reports – one by the world’s foremost international economic forum and the other by 24 United Nations agencies – presage the opening tomorrow of the most important conference on the looming crisis for three years. The World Water Forum, which will be attended by 20,000 people in Istanbul, will hear stark warnings of how half the world’s population will be affected by water shortages in just 20 years’ time, with millions dying and increasing conflicts over dwindling resources.

But at the end of all the searching I found the single biggest problem, man, the human being. From the BBC:

Even more difficult than putting something like biodiversity loss on the agenda, says former government adviser Jonathon Porritt, is getting politicians and the wider environmental community to accept that underpinning everything are the unsustainable size of the Earth’s human population and our unsustainable (and rising) hunger for the Earth’s natural resources.

Recently he raised the population issue in his blog – only to be excoriated by columnist Melanie Phillips for having a “sinister and de-humanised mindset” – which is perhaps an indicator of why other contemporary environmental thinkers are so reluctant to raise it publically, despite admitting its importance in private.

“Too controversial,” he says.

“Population raises all these issues about religion, about culture, about male dominance in the world; and (people) get very uncomfortable about that.”

Nevertheless, he argues, the logic is undeniable.

Well there you have it; we are the cause of all the leftists perceived problems. So be ready, when the climate change hoopla dies down expect another global crisis will be sung from mountain top to mountain top. But know, it has nothing to do with the story purported, because in reality it’s all about you and me. We are the threat, we are the enemy.

Satellites to monitor countries for climate change under Gordon Brown plan

As the US media continues to squash any mention of the “Climategate” scandal, Commonwealth leaders and Nicolas Sarkozy, the French President, were signing a new deal that would fund satellites to monitor, supposedly, the rain forests…right.

Sure the “global community” having it’s own satellites to monitor the earth’s surface for climate change, and whose going to control this, well of course it’s our good friends over at the United Nations. Can you say global government folks?

Congress Launches Climategate Investigation

Climategate scientists are under congressional investigation in the wake of information gleaned from e-mails pirated from a global-warming research center in England.

The e-mails revealed evidence that scientists with the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have been manipulating data to prove their theories of anthropogenic (man-made) global warming (AGW). Senator James Inhofe (R – Okla.) announced on November 24 that he will launch an investigation into the matter, sending letters to the scientists involved and to federal agencies warning them to “retain [related] documents.”

The furor over these documents is not about tone, colloquialisms or whether climatologists are nice people. The real issue is what the messages say about the way the much-ballyhooed scientific consensus on global warming was arrived at, and how a single view of warming and its causes is being enforced. The impression left by the correspondence among Messrs. Mann and Jones and others is that the climate-tracking game has been rigged from the start.

White House Science Czar Involved in Climategate

You haven’t heard it from America’s mainstream media yet – even Fox News hasn’t covered it – but the director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Dr. John P. Holdren, is a key player in the Climategate e-mails flap, which is shaping up as the biggest scandal in the history of modern science.

Holdren is an intractable global warming activist with no time for climate change skepticism. In a New York Times article, he contended that such questioning “has delayed – and continues to delay – the development of the political consensus that will be needed if society is to embrace remedies commensurate with the challenge.”

He has also become something of a celebrity, rubbing shoulders with the Hollywood luminaries at President Obama’s state dinner Tuesday night honoring Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and repeatedly appearing as a guest on the David Letterman show.

But the Canada Free Press this week revealed that the former Harvard professor and Al Gore global warming adviser features prominently in the thousands of e-mails and other files made public after the hacking last week of a computer server used by the University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit.

Gotcha! say the global warming sceptics who have argued for years that average temperatures on Earth are, in reality, either stable or going down. Professor Jones defended himself by claiming the word “trick” was used out of context and simply referred to a legitimate method of handling data. But there was more.

An email sent by one of Prof Jones’s colleagues said: “The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t.”

Prof Jones, whose department has for years refused to release its raw data on temperatures, wrote another email in which he said sceptics “have been after the CRU station data for years. If they ever hear there is a Freedom of Information Act now in the UK, I think I’ll delete the file rather than send it to anyone”. By chance, he now admits he has “accidentally” deleted some of the raw data.

Another message said the CRU’s method of collating data “renders the station counts totally meaningless… so, we can have a proper result, but only by including a load of garbage!”

Prof Jones, who at first refused to confirm even that the emails were genuine, finally issued a statement on Wednesday, in which he said: “My colleagues and I accept that some of the published emails do not read well.” On that point, at least, no one is likely to argue with him.

Although Prof Jones is not what you could call a household name (though he soon might be) he is, without doubt, one of the world’s most influential proponents of the theory of man-made global warming.

A climate of suspicion

The publication last week of excerpts from 3,000 e-mails stolen from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia comes as a blow to global-warming activists on the very eve of the Copenhagen climate summit. The e-mails concern a handful of US and UK scientists affiliated with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The IPPC has used a graph nicknamed the “hockey stick”, which shows a spike in temperatures in the past century. It is a centrepiece of the assessment of global warming that will be the basis of talks in Copenhagen.

But it has its detractors. In a paper published in 2005, the Canadian economist Ross McKitrick attacked the IPCC’s work as statistically flawed and warned that “group efforts are always at risk of self-selection and groupthink.” Citing the importance of the IPCC to policymakers, he urged an independent panel be appointed to assure, first, that “the data are publicly available” and, second, that “the statistical methods were fully described”.

The e-mails appear to bear out Mr McKitrick’s worries. One, allegedly written by Phil Jones of East Anglia, asks that “Mike” (Michael Mann of the University of Pennsylvania) and another scientist (“Gene”) delete certain of their e-mails regarding a 2007 IPCC study. The author of the e-mail volunteers that another scientist (“Keith”) would delete his own, and that “Caspar” would do the same. At least two letters describe ways the scientists should use their influence to pressure and delegitimise a peer-reviewed journal that had published a hostile paper. At least two describe manoeuvres to avoid Freedom of Information requests. The e-mails do not in themselves undermine the IPCC’s science. But they are evidence of groupthink. The author of the incriminating “Phil” e-mail appears hopeful, at least, that five distinguished scientists would be willing to destroy their own correspondence to defend their work not against error but against scrutiny. Mr Jones said this week that the e-mails were written out of frustration and that none have been deleted.

Worshipping at church of climate ’science’

Climate change as a result of the natural cycle of warming and cooling of the Earth has occurred throughout history.

The proposition that, beginning with the industrial age, this natural cycle might have been adversely affected, causing the Earth’s temperature to rise unnaturally and threaten some sort of planetary disaster, is worthy of scientific investigation.

But the proposition became a consensus premise of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change with its first report in 1990.

The IPCC, established by the UN through the efforts of its two organizations — the World Meteorological Organization and UN Environment Program — reports that increased emissions into the atmosphere as a result of human activity are causing a greenhouse effect by raising the Earth’s surface temperature.

For nearly two decades, the IPCC-backed “scientific” establishment made this proposition the official dogma of the environmental movement.

It has pushed the policy of forcefully reducing carbon emissions by industrialized and industrializing countries through UN-backed international treaties such as the Kyoto Agreement of 1997.

Legions of enthusiasts

Those who question the consensus premise of the IPCC provide independent research on climate change and are skeptical of climate predictions based on computer models are tagged as “deniers” — similar to the despicable folks who deny the Holocaust — by the high priests of the environment movement and their legions of “green” enthusiasts.

Science without a healthy dose of skepticism and which isn’t open to hard questioning becomes ideology.

An ideology is a closed system that distorts or excludes empirical data to serve its dogma.

As opposed to ideology or pseudoscience, science advances through critical thinking by subjecting theories to falsification tests and revisions.

There is no church of science except independent researchers commonly engaged in humility, trust in each other’s integrity, and certain of one thing, as Einstein noted: “That all our science, measured against reality, is primitive and childlike — and yet it is the most precious thing we have.”

The politics of ‘trust us’ is wearing thin

We’ve reached a moment of truth for the climate-change debate, which is a good thing since “the truth” is what everyone has been screaming about all along.

Last week, someone released thousands of emails and other documents from the highly influential Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in England. I say “someone released” because it’s unclear whether the deed was done by an outside hacker, an inside whistleblower or someone else.

In any case, the contents are staggering.

Now on display are the scientists’ apparent attempts to manipulate climate data to fit their narrative of an ever warming planet. So, too, are their schemes to withhold and even delete documents sought under Freedom of Information laws, as well as to prevent contrarian researchers from publishing work in scientific journals and United Nations climate-change reports.

Then there’s the plainly incoherent climate data at the heart of their work, as described by the poor computer programmer tasked with compiling it in a database upon which governments around the world depend.

So far there have been no protests from the scientists or the university that any of the information was falsified, only laughably weak attempts to act as if none of it is terribly important.

Yet this episode obliterates the public credibility once enjoyed by these scientists. And these are not just any scientists: Their work has been integral to the reports of the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the related push for legal restrictions on carbon emissions. It is hard to imagine what they could do to re-earn such prominence and trust.

The e-mail exchanges, between a group of powerful, like-minded scientists based in Britain and the U.S., written over the past 13 years, suggest they may have rigged their data, suppressed contrary information and conspired to control what should be an independent peer review process surrounding the publication of their scientific papers.

It’s partly the work of these scientists — whose computer modelling research has formed the basis of reports published by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change — that now compels many countries to write new laws on carbon emissions limits.

But Katz says the hacked e-mail exchanges prove the IPCC, and governments everywhere, have been seriously misled.

Well, it shouldn’t be a surprise that “Climategate” isn’t getting much attention by the main stream media. When an event is even bigger and more insidious than even “Watergate,” you would think that real journalists would be fighting tooth and nail to get the story. But of course they’re not…

Nevertheless the alternative media is stepping up and filling void. This morning I made a quick survey of the news stories and blog posts that you might consider reading and then passing to your friends and family. This is one event the liberty movement must “run to the ground.” We must get the word out – strike while the fire’s hot.

First on the list is John Delingpole of the Telegrah (UK), who besides Alex Jones at Infowars, has the best and most update information coming from the MSM.

Well no wonder he’s cross. His world is falling apart. Ed Begley Jr – now probably better known as a climate activist than for his role TV medical soap St Elsewhere – bought in so heavily to Big Al Gore’s Man-Made-Global-Warming meme, he actually became a vegan and is engaged in a competition with some other actor you won’t have heard of to see who can get the lowest Carbon Footprint.

Climategate: this is our Berlin Wall moment!

I’ve just had a great, very sympathetic interview about Climategate on LBC radio (London’s main commercial news and talk station) with Petrie Hosken. She told me she has been simply inundated with callers, all of them utterly unconvinced that human influence has made any significant on so-called “Global Warming”. She was desperate to get a few balancing calls from people who do believe in AGW but just couldn’t find any.

Can you imagine this happening a year ago? Or even a month ago? Until Climategate, we “Sceptics” were considered freaks – almost as bad as Holocaust deniers – beyond the pale of reasonable balanced discussion. Suddenly we’re the norm. Climategate has finally given us the chance to express openly what many of us secretly felt all along:

AGW is about raising taxes; increasing state control; about a few canny hucksters who’ve leapt on the bandwagon fleecing us rotten with their taxpayer subsidised windfarms and their carbon-trading; about the sour, anti-capitalist impulses of sandal-wearing vegans and lapsed Communists who loathe the idea of freedom and a functioning market economy.

As I wrote above besides Mr. Delingpole, Alex Jones has great depth of information and has been covering this lie longer than most.

An agency of the New Zealand government has been cooking the books to create a warming trend where none exists, according to a joint research project by global warming skeptics at the Climate Conversation Group and the New Zealand Climate Science Coalition. The chief cook? Dr. Jim Salinger, considered one of the country’s top scientists, who began the graph in the 1980s when he was at the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in the UK. CRU, of course, has become ground zero of Climategate at Dr. Salinger has maintained close relations with CRU since, as seen in the Climategate emails.

Warmism is not our specialist subject, but we really can’t let the scandal of Climategate pass without comment.

As you will know, emails and other material “liberated” from the publicly funded Climatic Research Institute at the University of East Anglia, show quite clearly that warmist “scientists” have been manipulating data on climate change in order to con the public into believing their religion. Their very expensive religion.

The emails talk explicity of data manipulation “tricks”, “hiding the decline” observed in actual temperature records, and suppressing dissident views (you can access the complete set here, but be warned – there are shedloads). It’s all straight out of the Manual of Stalinist Tractor Statistics. The emails also contain requests to other warmist “scientists” to destroy embarrassing records that might be subject to public disclosure under freedom of information laws (an inconvenience such people didn’t suffer in the USSR).

I plan on posting periodic surveys of the news stories concerning this scandal, so please check in from time to time for updates.

On another note and coming back to the idea of striking while the fire is hot, get on the stick and start emailing, writing, and calling your local, state and federal politicians demanding an investigation, and likewise start writing your community newspapers “letters to the editor” section to get this scandal out there. If the MSM isn’t going to cover the story because they are beholden to this corruption, then we need to get the word out ourselves.

Lift up a rock and another snake comes slithering out from the ongoing University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit (CRU) scandal, now riding as  “Climategate”.

Obama Science Czar John Holdren is directly involved in CRU’s unfolding Climategate scandal.  In fact, according to files released by a CEU hacker or whistleblower, Holdren is involved in what Canada Free Press (CFP) columnist Canadian climatologist Dr. Tim Ball terms “a truculent and nasty manner that provides a brief demonstration of his lack of understanding, commitment on faith and willingness to ridicule and bully people”.

“The files contain so much material that it is going to take some time t o put it all in context,” says Ball.  “However, enough is already known to underscore their explosive nature.  It is already clear the entire claims and positions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are based on falsified manipulated material and is therefore completely compromised.

“The fallout will be extensive as material continues to emerge.  Reputations of the scientists involved are already destroyed, however fringe players will continue to be identified and their reputations destroyed or sullied.”

While the mainstream media is bending into pretzels to keep the scandal under the rug, Climategate is already the biggest scientific scandal in history because of the global policy implications.

We need to do something.

• Email this article to your friends and family; don’t worry about the naysayers, just get this information out there.
• Write your Congressman and Senator and demand an investigation; I say write because all they do is delete our emails.
• Call you local state elected officials and tell them you want a complete investigate by your state. Our state legislators must take back the power that is being abused in Congress, remember Congress has been funding this propaganda for years now.
• Go to leftist and environmental leftist weblogs and get on their comment pages and post this information about Climategate. It might tick a lot of them off, but there may be one or two out there that have a few brain cells remaining and we might get through to them.

A few of us knew this was a lie, but through the power and resources of governments and corporations the majority of uninformed were swayed to believe the crap about climate change. Now we have the truth. We must take the banner of truth and fight the enemy. If we don’t go on the assault we will lose because the enemy will spin this completely to their advantage. Get the word out people and fight these global tyrants.

Cap and Trade would hit Ohio’s Pocketbook

This letter to the editor appeared in The Columbus Dispatch:

It’s been a remarkably contentious few months in our nation’s capital. But one thing is clear from the flurry of bills, amendments and stump speeches on climate change: Cap and trade will fail Americans, especially in the lower and middle classes, and bring higher fuel costs across the board.

The fuels that individuals and businesses use every day — gasoline, diesel and jet fuel — will increase dramatically in price under this legislation. Despite the number of bells and whistles attached, from green-power subsidies or weak nuclear-power amendments to minor offshore-drilling concessions, cap and trade is a toxin that will spread to every corner of our economy.

According to a study by the Heritage Foundation, Ohioans would be looking at almost $4 billion less in disposable income, 46,000 jobs lost and $10.6 billion in lost state revenue. Though the White House and its allies in Congress have relentlessly marketed cap and trade as the ticket for a “green economy” and “green jobs,” many Americans are catching on that these do not exist without massive taxpayers’ subsidies and exponentially higher energy rates.

Ohioans must stay on guard; this issue is far from dead. Urge Ohio Sens. Sherrod Brown and George V. Voinovich to stop cap-and-trade legislation and keep America moving on the transportation fuels it needs.

Plenty of H1N1 Vaccine; But Is There?

Rest easy people, the Ohio Department of Health has announced that there is enough H1N1 vaccine to protect the “priority” groups in Ohio, even though there is absolutely, positively, no pandemic.

Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Alvin Jackson, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Thomas Frieden gave an update on flu activity and vaccine distribution today.

Thanks Sherrod, we couldn’t have done it without your guiding leadership.

As things stand, Ohio health departments, hospitals and doctors’ offices have received enough vaccine to cover those people the CDC considered highest priority in the event of a shortage, Jackson said.

In the event of shortage, what; but I thought there was plenty? Oh, that’s right, the Council for Foreign Relations (who’s in the business of medical care among making war and pushing a global government) says that it’s okay to lie and create panic using an artificial shortage to get the proles to take the shots. Glad to see you got the talking point Dr. Jackson.

Voinovich Bill Would Create Civilian ROTC

In case any of you die-hard Ohio Republicans think Georgie Voinovich is a Republican, he’s not; not even close. It looks like Georgie is going to ramp up the next phase of Obama’s Civilian Corps.

It’s time for a civilian ROTC.

That’s the idea of a bipartisan group of senators and House members who are proposing to create the Roosevelt Scholars program, named after Teddy Roosevelt. Reps. David Price, D-N.C., and Mike Castle, R-Del., have introduced a bill in the House, and a similar measure is expected in the Senate this week from Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., and George V. Voinovich, R-Ohio.

Although there is sentiment to include undergraduates in the program, the House bill is aimed at graduate students, because the federal government has a special demand for highly qualified employees who are otherwise attracted (and heavily recruited) by the private sector. In exchange for generous scholarships in fields such as engineering, information technology, foreign languages and public health, the scholars would commit to three to five years of service in an agency of the federal government. …

In the small and underappreciated world of those who care passionately about improving government’s performance and prestige, there are competing visions of how to achieve this. One group of activists and legislators has been pushing to create a Public Service Academy, modeled after the military academies, to prepare a new generation of leaders in government.

What has become of Ohio’s once great Republican leaders?

I can see it all now, young men and women in their smart black uniforms and black boots marching to cadence at the Public Service Academy on the Potomac, which would rival the cadets at West Point and Annapolis. Or how about Public Service-ROTC students in their smart black uniforms marching proudly carrying the US Flag at the “Shoe” for one of Ohio State’s football games. Yes, yes for the Homeland!

Well, here we are standing on the precipice of a social-fascist take over of our nation, which has been taking place incrementally since the 1970s, and is about to come to the realization as two pieces of federal legislation are moving through Congress; the cap and trade and mandatory national health care.

So that being said, would John Kasich call for the nullification of the cap and trade and the mandatory national health care legislation, and for that matter, any federal law infringing upon the rights of the State of Ohio and her citizens from a tyrannical federal government?

I have complete disdain for the Ohio Republican Party and will never vote a straight republican ticket again, and I find it equally difficult to vote for any Ohio republican. So if Mr. Kasich would begin a discussion regarding Ohio’s rights, as a state, to defend herself from the tyrannical domination of the federal government, the desires for a global government as espoused by the President of the United States and the threat of a fascist faction seated within Washington City, I would support the man whole heartily. At the moment, he isn’t offering me anything different from Bob Taft and Ted Strickland.

So as Bill O’Reilly often says, “What sayth you” Mr. Kasich?
